Description
An original decorative Torchon Mat design by Jan Gardiner. This design was inspired by the manner in which Cottage Gardens are grown. i.e. beans next to roses, carrots next to pansies etc. and makes use of some of the beautiful stitches that appear in Torchon lace. Amongst the stitches are 7 different Rose Grounds, 2 Triangular Grounds, as well as 3 different Spiders. The gimp is interesting as it weaves its way around the features. Although this square mat is worked in the traditional way there are only 2 pattern repeats so it keeps the lacemakers interest all the way to completion. The finished lace is approximately 16 x 16 cm (6.25 x 6.25 inches) in size.
Requirements: 38 to 40 pairs plus 1 Gimp pair of Aurifil Mako 28 cotton or similar.
Aurifil thread can be found under the ‘Aurifil Mako Cotton’ tab in the ‘Threads and Wires’ section.
